Has the time come for the old Triton swimming pool sand filters?

This week during a regular 24″ sand change service and multiport valve inspection, we encountered the age old problem of not being able to remove the filter lid. The filter lid on the old side mounted Triton sand filters are prone to becoming very tightly bound to the filter vessel even the manufacturers spanners being plastic is often not even strong enough to remove the swimming pool sand filter lid.

So the only option sometimes is to cut the lid from the sand filter vessel and replace the lid with an entirely new lid, which really is not the end of the world being the filter lids only cost around the £50 mark, however seemingly the manufacturers have declared the filters obsolete! Eeekkk even spares we have been very very fortunate to purchase the last few remaining UK stocks of this filter lid!
